When Ferretti designed the 550, Stefano Campanelli, Ferretti’s Head of Sales, said it was designed for sun worshippers. One look at this yacht and you will see why. With a large cockpit and tons of open deck space this layout offers sun seekers plenty of locations to soak up the rays from her dedicated seating arrangements to her sunpad to a spot on the open deck. The first thing you will notice about this boat is her sleek design. Envision long lines sweeping aft in keeping with a cutting-edge Euro design. The next thing you may notice is her flybridge. The flybridge sits pretty far aft and there’s a reason for that. This design feature is in keeping with maintaining her sleek lines. It also pulls double duty, providing cover for the deck below. This offers a welcome bit of shade for the non-sun worshippers in the bunch as well as a perfect rainy-day lounge area. Another great design achievement is how the 550 maintains sleek lines while still providing tons of visibility inside.
Moving inside the cabin, you will notice the layout focuses a lot on space, attention to detail and “luxurious appointments.” With all the roomy open space in the salon, you may be surprised that the designers still managed to pull off appointing the 550 with three staterooms and two heads in this layout. A guest “VIP” cabin is located forward and has a lot of storage in the form of hanging lockers. The master is positioned amidships and delights with large windows and opening ports. Along with roomy lockers in the master as well, there is also a desk and a dinette positioned in such a manner that it keeps the room feeling spacious and open.
The 550 is powered by twin inboard Cummins Diesel QSM11s each producing a whopping 715 horse power. This gives her a cruising speed of about 26 knots and a maximum speed of 30 knots.
